Pendleton Fire & Ambulance is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual who will be responsible for the development and management of on-call firefighter recruitment and retention program for firefighters and support personnel. The position is responsible for developing, planning, leading, and implementation of a comprehensive recruitment and retention program that will attract and retain qualified paid-on-call firefighters to Pendleton Fire Department. This position is an approximately 1-year position funded by a Federal SAFER Grant (Staffing Adequate Fire Emergency Response), an assistance program created to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase the number of trained, "front line" firefighters available in their communities. The Recruiting and Retention Coordinator (RRC) is a non-union, administrative position, reporting to the Fire Chief. The position is part-time, 30 hours per week, requiring flexibility to accommodate working with PFD&A personnel.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

An associate's Degree in fire science or a closely related field is required plus 3-5 years of experience in emergency response.  Must also have or obtain:

  1. Certification in Oregon EMS is required within 1 year of hire;

b)   NFPA Firefighter II certification within six (6) months;

c)   NFPA Fire Instructor I certification within six (6) months;

d)   NFPA Fire Officer II certification within six (6) months.

 

Must possess knowledge of methods, techniques, materials and equipment related to all aspects of emergency response and be able to coordinate a comprehensive reserve program including resident interns.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

A. Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid, insurable Driver’s License;

B. Must be able to effectively read, speak and write the English language;

C. Must be able to pass the department’s security clearance standards including a review of criminal history and driving record.
