Help preventing build up by removing leaves
When it rains, leaves tend plug the catch basin, causing water ponding.
The City of Pendleton operates and maintains a 40-mile system of underground pipes and catch basins to transport rain and snow melt into the ground, rivers, and streams. When it rains this time of year, leaves may plug drains and catch basins, and the stormwater system cannot work when drains are clogged and covered. If you see leaves or other debris blocking a drain or catch basin, grab and rake and pull those leaves away from the drain. Pendleton Sanitary Service offers free leaf recycling in the month of November.
Folks can help if they have a lawn or garden rake by pulling leaves off the top of the catch basin. This will help let the standing water drain. Our citizens are our front line to helping keep the storm system draining and flowing, and protecting their property.
It takes time for City staff to work through the entire storm drain system.

Storm drains do NOT treat the water that flows into the drains.
When RV and pet waste , along with any paints, fertilizer or car wash soap, enter storm drains, it all flows directly into our beautiful environment causing foul odors and pollution. Storm drains do NOT prevent flooding when clogged. Weeds, dirt, grass clippings and leaves, when le on
the road and driveway, eventually find their way to the drain. This can cause clog the drain and create flooding on your property.
