Boil Notice: Riverside neighborhood beginning June 11

Note: This boil notice ONLY applies to water customers in the Riverside neighborhood beginning on June 11, 2024. Those in the impacted area will receive a physical letter, copied below.

Drinking water Warning

Boil Your Water Before Using

The City of Pendleton crews will be replacing a main line valve in the intersection of NE Riverside and NE 37th Street. We will inform you when tests show no bacteria and you no longer need to boil your water. We anticipate resolving the problem within 24 hrs.

Due to loss of water pressure in the distribution system on June 11, 2024, potentially, harmful bacteria could be present in the water supply. If these bacteria are present, they could make you sick, and are a particular concern for people with weakened immune systems. The affected area is limited, but if you have received this notice directly from you water provider, you are in the affected area.

For those in the impacted area: Do Not Drink the Water without Boiling It First

Customers should boil water to a rolling boil for 1 full minute, allow the water to cool before using, and store the cooled water in a clean container with a cover. Customers should use boiled after that has cooled of bottled water for:

  • Drinking
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing fruits and vegetables
  • Preparing food and baby formula
  • Making ice
  • Cleaning food contact surfaces

This boil water advisory is a precaution. To limit risk to health, customers should follow the instructions contained in this advisory.

General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by contaminants n drinking water are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791 or the Oregon Health Authority, Drinking Water Services at 971-673-0405.

To: Property/ Business Owners:

The City of Pendleton's public works crew will be installing a new mainline valve in NE Riverside Ave and NE 37th ST. This operation requires a temporary water shutdown, which will commence at 8 a.m. and continue until the work is completed. We urge our valued customers to prepare for this by filling containers with water for drinking and possibly for flushing toilets. If you require drinking water assistance during the shutdown, please do not hesitate to contact one of the two numbers listed at the bottom of this letter.

To minimize water loss in your house plumbing, please turn off the water supply to your toilet. With the water supply to the toilet turned off, you can still flush, but you need to refill the toilet tank with water from a container for the next flush. This will minimize the amount of lost water from building plumbing, which means less air being introduced into your building's plumbing.

Once the water repair is completed and the water is back on, we assure you that the system will be thoroughly flushed. We ask that you take a moment to run all your faucets at your sinks and tubs until the water runs clear and there is no air in the system. If you notice low water flow, you may need to remove the screens and strainers on your faucets. This process ensures the restoration of normal water flow and quality.

Because we are unable to access all of the approximately 150 services affected by our shut-off, State of Oregon guidelines require us to issue a boil water advisory (on the back). We will be taking water quality samples after water service is restored. During the first 24 hours, the water is considered non-potable (non-drinkable) unless boiled for one minute. Please follow the guidelines of the Oregon Health Authority's "Drinking Water Warning" notice on the back of this page until we notify you that the boiled water notice has been lifted.

We will inform you when the boil your water notice is lifted through roadside reader board signs and our City Facebook account.

On your next water bill, the City will credit your account with 1 unit of water to cover the cost of flushing your plumbing system.
